Check the fan connections under the fan shround...lower right side looking at the car. It only happens when the car is idling for a while and I live in a rural area so don't usually spend much time in slow or stalled traffic. TP sensor voltage less than 1.2 volts for greater than 1.7 seconds.

The PCM constantly monitors Pin D so as to determine when the engine reaches operating temperature (Fig. 2). After doing the repair that I have posted here, We have been driving the PT for about a year with NO OTHER PROBLEMS. In the initial stage of engine warm-up, the ECT could be 75,000 ohms but "R1" is still 350 ohms. My main concern, still, is that the temperature gauge never registered above normal when it overheated. It would over heat at read lights, stopped highway traffic, slow city traffic etc., but would return to normal temp if you turn the heat on. He did a radiator flush and found a loose hose clamp at the bottom of the radiator. Car is with mechanic now but he still can't figure it out after 3 days!
